Broncos Annual Awards 2017

On Saturday 21st October the Club held the last Annual Awards Night for the Broncos team. Next time the Awards Night will be shared between the clubs two teams, the Broncos AND Colts.
At this year’s event in the Oxgang Kitchen Bar and Rooms we had our biggest turnout yet. With the presentations, raffle prizes, fund raising games, a DJ and the obligatory games of Beer Pong, it was a “full on” celebration of the Broncos year.
As well as presenting medals to all of the players, there were a few “special presentations” made prior to the main awards.
On behalf of the club Alison Thomson handed out framed presentations to each of the HNC Chieftains Super 5s winning players (Liam Fleming, Scott McKenzie, Callum Woods, Kevin Woods and Fraser Thomson) and to the Chieftains Coaches (David Mooney and Jimmy Thomson).
2005 European Bronze Medalist with the GB Lions, David Mooney, then presented the three 2017 European Bronze Medalists (Fraser Thomson, Kevin Woods and Callum Woods) with badges for each of the international games played.

A special presentation was made to Callum Woods for his “heroic feat” to get to this years Northern Regional Finals.

HNC Quarterback of the Year

Club Chairman, Jimmy Thomson, then delivered a framed presentation to Scott McKenzie to celebrate his Flag Football World HNC Quarterback of the Year Award.

In his speech prior to handing out the player medals, Head Coach David Mooney thanked all the players for their hard work throughout his year, but announced he will be stepping back from the top spot to concentrate on developing the Colts team. He also named his successor, after a certain amount of dramatic

build up, as Fraser Thomson.

Just prior to the delivery of the Individual Awards, Broncos Fantasy League Manager Daniel McGill delivered the trophy for the 2016/2017 season to Jimmy Thomson, following on from his 2015/2016 trophy.
The first individual Award of the evening was the Broncos Comedy Award.
There were nominations for Jimmy Thomson, Andrew O’Donnell, Ciaran Young, Liam Fleming and a joint nomination for Louise Donnelly, Fraser Thomson and Luke Morrice.
After seeing some of the video it came as no surprise to those in the room that the award went to Liam Fleming for “Keeping us all amused” throughout the year.
