Broncos – Mixed Bag on Day 1 in League

A bit of a mixed bag for the Broncos at Greenock today.
In their first game in the BAFA Premier Conference North the Broncos were just too strong for the Edinburgh Outlaws, winning 51 points to 0.
In the first half the Broncos put up 37 points, but in less than usual fashion.
The first TD was a pass from Callum Woods to his Brother Kevin,
The Second TD was a run from Scott McKenzie,
The next score was a run from Callum Woods,
Then Scott McKenzie threw a TD to Matthew Ross,
Fraser Thomson threw a TD to Matthew Ross,
Scott passed to Matty for our first XP of the day,
And Scott McKenzie added a second running TD.
Amongst that, Luke Morrice tipped an Edinburgh pass to Callum for an interception and Liam had an interception called back for a penalty.
Into the second half, Scott passed to Luke for a TD, then threw a 2 point conversion to Liam,
And the final TD was a length of the field run from Kevin.
Interceptions from Fraser and Liam in the second half helped keep the clean sheet. In fact the only First Down that Edinburgh managed was by a penalty.
Cracking start!
While the Broncos got the job done in this game, it needs to be put in perspective. Edinburgh are a good side, but they tend to have good days and bad days. This wasn’t one of their best. The lost to Aberdeen 66 – 0 in their second game.
The Broncos second game followed on with unseemly haste. Not even giving players the time to go to the toilet.
This game was going to be a different prospect though, against the Hornets. In a bright start the Broncos first drive saw us score with a pass from Scott to Callum. Another XP failed but our noses were in front.
Unfortunately, the Hornets scored on their next drive, but Liam intercepted the XP to keep the score even at 6 – 6.
Then the Broncos seemed to stall. By half time the Hornets had scored another 3 TDs and 2 XPs to lead 26 – 6. The only bright spot was a sack for Matty Ross.
When the Hornets scored on their first drive of the second half, the Broncos could have completely capitulated. However, they began to make inroads into the game and stopped the Hornets from scoring again.
Unfortunately, the two second half TDs the Broncos scored, passes from Scott McKenzie to Scott McCracken and Liam Fleming were not enough to overcome the defecit.
Fraser got onto the stats with a hard fought interception in front of Jules.
With the Broncos winning the second half, there are definitely positives to be taken from the match, but the team has to perform at that level throughout the whole match if they are going to manage to overcome the Glasgow outfit.
