Club February Update

Apologies for the delay in getting updates published.
After the success of the Broncos Flagging New Year the Club hasn’t been quiet. While the weather has impacted our ability to practice, there have been a couple of events worth noting, including the first “official” Colts outing.
On the 4th of February, the club entered both the Broncos and the Colts into the Flagging Iron Man tournament at Toryglen. This competiton limited the squad sizes to six players, or seven if you had any female players.

The Broncos squad for the day was – Scott McCracken, Scott McKenzie, Matthew Ross, Kevin Simpson, Fraser Thomson and Callum Woods.
The object of the day for the Broncos was to enjoy the competition and see how the results worked out. Their group comprised of two EK Pirates Ladies teams, London Smoke, Iron Nuts, Carnegie and Strathclyde Hawks there was a wide variation in the competition. Having played the first two games with only five players, the day was always going to be tough, so to come out of the competition with four wins and two losses was a decent result.
The Colts squad for the day was –

Andy Brown, Steven Cliffe, Billy Corner, Louise Donnelly, Daniel McGill, Joe McIlwaine and David Mooney.
The object of the day for the Colts was to get much needed playing practice.
This would be the first time the Colts would be competing with no help from any Broncos subs. Unfortunately, their group was a much tougher set of teams. Rexy’s Midnight Runners (a few Oilcats players), Killer Bees, the Cobras, Glasgow Hornets, Leeds Samurai and Paisley Spartans. There were a couple of disappointing results, losing to teams they will play in the league in the coming year, but a huge boost to the morale was beating a 2017 Play-Off team.
Then, on 25th of March the West Lothian Chargers visited Westfield for games against the Colts and the Broncos.
The day was spoiled a little when early in the first game against the Colts two Chargers players clashed head to head and had to be taken to hospital. Both were reported to be fine after the application of some stitches and some superglue. (Yes, really)
With some help from Broncos player Kevin Woods, the Chargers carried on and kept the score close, but the Colts hung on for the win.
In the game against the Broncos Daniel McGill became an honorary Charger for the day, but the Broncos, as you might expect, were comfortable winners.
