Flagging New Year III

This weekend (20th/21st January) the Broncos will be taking part in this years Flagging New Year tournament. The whole tournament will be played on the indoor pitch, so spectators won’t have to contend with the Scottish weather.
The action will start both days at 09:15 sharp, so the players are being asked to be there 08:00-08:15 so that we can begin warming up at 08:30.
The Broncos first opponents on Saturday will be the Reckless Russians. This team is believed to be a mix of teams that a few of the Broncos got a chance to play against at Big Bowl last year, Fraser, Callum and Kevin, playing for the London Barbarians, won a tight encounter over the Zyuzino Zombies while Scott and Liam also got a victory over the Moscow Tough Nuts while playing with the HNC Chieftains.
In their second game, starting at 11:15, the Broncos face the Newcastle Blackhawks. Here is a team the Broncos have faced a few times, though the Blackhawks have become one of the MEC’s top teams in recent years.
Our third game, at 13:15, will be against the Renegades, another well known team. This year though Carnegie’s move to a one team set up will allow them to concentrate their efforts.

The last game of the day, starting at 15:15 will be against the Baker Street Buttonhookers. They are the defending Flagging New Year and Britbowl champions, they were 3rd at Pink Bowl 3rd and their 9th place finish at Big Bowl hides the fact that they only lost one game. They are stacked with talent at all positions and are one of the favourites for the tournament.

While the Broncos group looks tough, there are no easy groups this year.

Group two has the Dutch Lions, Sheffield Giants, Clyde Comets, Coventry Cougars, Vienna Spartans and Edinburgh Outlaws.

Group three consists of Victoria Park Panthers, Dunbeth Dragons, Aberdeen Oilcats, Sollerod Gold Diggers, Purmerend Barbarians and Aylesbury Vale Spartans.

The final group contains Walldorf Wanderers, Manchester Titans, Glasgow Hornets, Utrecht Dominators, Uppsala 86ers and Chichister Sharks.

The day promises some quality games all through the two days.

It would be great to see some Broncos supporters over the weekend. Entry to the event is free.
