Broncos “Prepare” for Northern Regional Finals

The Broncos preparations for the Northern Regional Finals are not ideal with Saturday practice OFF this weekend (29th July). The success of the Broncos players on the international scene means that four of the starters are attending a Great Britain Camp. In addition, coaches Mooney and Thomson are unavailable. This means that the mid-week practice on the 2nd of August becomes more important than ever.
With the completion of the regular season fixtures last weekend the Play-Off picture has now become clear.
The Broncos are second seeds from the HNC behind the Hornets and fourth seeds overall. With the Hornets getting byes in the first two rounds, that means the Broncos first round opponents will be the lowest seeds in the MEC, the Leeds Samurai. While the Samurai have made the post-season with a losing record, the Broncos cannot take them lightly.
The other first round match-ups (all of them HNC versus MEC teams) will be Sheffield Giants v Edinburgh Outlaws, Aberdeen Oilcats v Manchester Crows, Manchester Titans v Dunbeth Dragons and Sheffield Vipers v Clyde Comets.
The Newcastle Blackhawks will play in the second round against the lowest remaining seed. The Broncos likely opponent will be either the Aberdeen Oilcats or the Manchester Crows. While the Broncos have beaten both teams this year, they have to remember that the last time the Broncos met the Oilcats in the play-offs they lost having beaten them in the regular season.
At this stage of the season, there are NO easy games.
