Kicking off with style

A job well done today by the Broncos. Two good wins against teams who will be pushing for play-off spots. Thanks to the Dunbeth Dragons and Carnegie Steelers for two competative games.
And before we go any further, congratulations to Neil Roy-Warren for making his comeback after serious illness.
Photos will follow, but here are some of the stories of the day
Broncos versus Dragons – The Broncos came out of the starting gate like a rocket. 4 offensive plays, two TDs (one each for Liam Fleming and Kevin Woods) and 2 XPs (both from Fraser Thomson) is how you would like to start all games. A further three TDs (Fraser, Kevin and Jimmy Thomson) and 3 XPs (Fraser, Jimmy and Andy Brown) in the first half. Add to that, interceptions by Liam and Fraser, plus a “tackle for loss” for both Jimmy and Broony, and the Broncos were in a commanding lead by the half 35 – 0. Two more TDs in the second half (one each for Liam and Callum Woods), plus one XP (again from Fraser). And, a sack for Andrew O’Donnell. Inevitabley the Dragons did score a TD, but the Defence more than did it’s share of the graft to help the team win 48 – 6.
In the second game of the day the Broncos faced the Carnegie Steelers. While they didn’t start quite as quickly in this game, the Broncos maintained their form on offence to score on every drive. TDs from Liam (3), and Kevin, XPs from Fraser, Callum and Kevin, with Kevin adding a 2 point conversion. The defence pressure on the Steeler QB paid dividends four times over with four interceptions. 2 for Liam and a pick 6 each for Kevin and Fraser. Matthew Ross recorded a sack too. 42 – 0 at the half.
Again, in the second half of this game, the Broncos got two TDs (Kevin and Callum) and 1 XP (Fraser). One of the highlights of the second half was two sacks in two plays from Andrew. And, again, one TD from the Steelers.
Final Score 55 – 6.
While wehave mentioned the scorers, we should add that other players featured throughout both games. First off, Scott McKenzie threw the majority of the TDs and XPs. Then in no particular order,
Ciaran Young, Steven Cliffe, Keith Crane, Reece Johnston and Billy Corner. Unfortunately Louise Donnelly couldn’t shake off the injury from last week. Daniel McGill was there AS ALWAYS! 🙂
And let’s not forget our Head Coach who has started his league campaign with two good wins. David Mooney. Pity he forgot to put himself on the park!
In the final game of the day the Dragons came out on top 31 points to 20. This had been a tighter game than the score suggests, with the Dragons scoring as time expired.
Many thanks to the Dragons for hosting.
