Two good wins for the Broncos at Whitecross

In the first game against the Dunbeth Dragons the lack of game time for six weeks showed. The usual quick start that has been a feature of the Broncos wins this season failed to show up. It took an interception from Kevin Woods to get the kick start the team needed. By half time though, the Broncos had built a comfortable lead, 34 – 6. Kevin Woods had added an XP to his interception, Liam Fleming had 2 TDs, a pick 6 and 2 interceptions, Scott McKenzie had a TD, Callum Woods had a TD, Fraser Thomson had 2 XPs and Matty Ross had a hat-trick of Sacks.
After the break the Broncos started rotating players, but that didn’t slow the scoring. Two TDs for veteran Jimmy Thomson, a pair of TDs for Luke Morrice, 2 XPs from Andy Brown, a 2pt XP from Callum Woods and an XP from Kevin Woods guaranteed the Broncos the win. On defence, despite another couple of touchdowns from Dragons player Craig Murray, the pressure was maintained with an interception for Fraser Thomson and a sack from Daniel McGill. Final score 34 – 19. While Scott McKenzie threw the majority of the offensive plays, Fraser threw 1 TD each to Scott McKenzie and Liam Fleming, and Callum Woods threw one of Andy Brown’s XPs.
The next game on the schedule was Broncos v Steelers. This time the start seemed more like business as usual. A TD and XP to Fraser on the first drive, then a safety from Matty Ross was a good start. That was followed by a TD and Pick 6 from Callum Woods, a TD from Kevin Woods, a TD and a sack for Matty Ross, three XPs for Liam Fleming and an interception for Fraser. The only hiccup was an interception thrown by Scott. Half time 37 – 6.
In the second half the Broncos again took the opportunity to get the backups on the field. A TD and XP for Matty Ross, Reece Johnston’s first competative TD and a TD on return from injury from Daniel McGill kept the Broncos motoring. The Steelers did score a pair of TDs and XPs, but it wasn’t enough to cause any panic on the Broncos sideline. Final Score 56 – 20. Again, while Scott took the majority of the offensive snaps, Fraser threw a TD to Callum and the subsequent XP to Liam. And, Andy Brown got his competitive debut at QB, driving the length of the field, capping it off with Reece’s TD.
In the final game of the day, arguably the most important game of the day since both teams needed to win to keep them in the hunt for a play-off spot, the Dragons and Steelers played out a tense error strewn game. The Steelers were in the lead 14 – 6 at half time. An interception each in the first half plus six sacks from the Steelers meant the Dragons QB and coach had some stern words for his players at half time. The Steelers extended their lead after half time before the Dragons began to eat into the lead. Then three changes of lead in the last three minutes saw the Dragons take the game, 31 – 28. The Dragons have much easier final two games, so should take the play-off place.

The Broncos would like to thank all of the supporters who came out to cheer on the team. The team would also like to thank the Canalside Bar and Grill for the food provided after the game.
